According to the reports, these unknown gunmen fired randomly during the invasion. The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday, July 19, when the students were returning from classes within the premises.
The university is situated in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, a few meters from Calabar. Some students managed to escape to safety but suffered multiple injuries.
“The gunmen succeeded in abducting one of them and left another with severe machete cuts. We understand that the kidn@pped student was taken into the nearby forest”, a source told Daily Post.
Another source has been able to identify the student who was kidnapped as Josephine Etim Edet. According to the information, the victim had just written her last paper for the semester before the incident occurred.
The University has however issued a statement confirming the incident while assuring parents and guardians of students that the issue is being looked into.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, has also informed the public that the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan has drafted the anti-kidnapping, Anti-Cultism, and the Dragon Units of the police to the school to forestall a breakdown of law and order and also secure the release of the kidnapped student. She also added that they had launched investigations to unravel the cause of the attack on the students of the private university.
